Ladue Marine, Lance Cpl. Matthew Clark, Killed In Iraq Buried At Jefferson Barracks
A 2-hour service Friday morning honored a Ladue Marine killed in Iraq.
Lance Cpl. Matthew Clark was 22 years old. He joined the Marines after graduating from Ladue Horton Watkins High School. He served in Afghanistan, then later Iraq, where he was killed last week.

Friday, a crowd gathered to honor him at the Cathedral Basilica in St. Louis. After the two-hour funeral service, the casket was taken to his final resting place, Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery.

Friends, family and former teachers described Lance Cpl. Clark as charming and charismatic. His uncle says the family’s sorrow at his death is mixed with pride about his life.

“A sense of duty, a sense of honor, trust, loyalty. Young people are taught this in Boy Scouts and things like that, and it’s difficult for us to live it, but Matthew lived it,” said Mac Chamblin, his uncle.
