Services Planned For Fallen Metro-Area Marine
Blazer To Be Remembered At Southwest Baptist Church
OKLAHOMA CITY — An Oklahoma Marine who was killed in Iraq was to be laid to rest on Tuesday in the Oklahoma City metro area.

Staff Sgt. Melvin Blazer Jr. was one of seven soldiers who were killed in early December by enemy fire near Fallujah.

Blazer’s father, Melvin Blazer Sr., lives in Moore. He says the Marine Corps was his son’s true calling and added that he’s proud of what his son did for his country.

“I loved him dearly,” Melvin Blazer Sr. said. “I’m very proud of him, and I’m most proud of all the kids over there too.”

Melvin Blazer Jr. was called to duty in Iraq after the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.

Funeral services were scheduled for Tuesday afternoon at Southwest Baptist Church.
