RINGGOLD — Joshua Scott, a 24-year-old Marine from Catoosa County who lost his life in Iraq, was laid to rest on Thursday afternoon.
Mourners gathered at Ringgold United Methodist Church for the funeral, followed by burial at the Keith Baptist Church Cemetery next to his grandfather.
Scott, who was stationed at Camp Fallujah, was killed Jan. 22 when the Humvee he was riding in overturned.
Tim Scott, Joshua’s brother, gave the eulogy and spoke fondly of his little brother and with pride about the man he grew up to be.
Joshua was born on December 13, 1981, weighing only 3 pounds and 7 ounces, his brother recalled. He said Joshua could fit in the palm of his hand at the time and that he grew to be one of the strongest men he had ever met in his whole life.
Tim, who is also a Marine, said Joshua looked up to him and he encouraged Joshua to become a member of the Marine Corps.
Tim also spoke about Joshua’s love for his wife Mendy and their 7-month-
old daughter, Carmien, and of Mendy’s love for Joshua.
“Behind every great serviceman is a great woman,” he said.
Vince Gill’s “Go Rest High on that Mountain,” followed the brother’s words.
Scott graduated from Ringgold High School in 2001. He was a lance corporal in the Anti-Terror Battalion CATT 3.
