Cleveland Marine mourned at funeral

PARMA -- A Marine who came to the United States when he was six years old was remembered at his funeral today for his belief in duty to his country.

Lance Corporal David Mendez Ruiz of Cleveland was killed November 12th by a homemade bomb along with another Marine while conducting combat operations in Al Amiriyah, Iraq.

Friends tearfully eulogized the 20-year-old Guatemala native at his funeral at Bethel Temple in Parma.

Friend Brandon Jaffre called Ruiz his hero.

Ruiz was buried at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman. He is survived by his parents and seven siblings.
