LA Marine Killed in Iraq
 

LOS ANGELES—A 19-year-old Marine machine gunner from Huntington Park died in Iraq when a bomb struck the vehicle he was traveling in, officials said.

Pfc. Ramon Romero died Monday near Fallujah while conducting combat operations.

He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion in January and deployed to Iraq on July 4.

Romero was stationed at the Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center in Twentynine Palms. He is the 63rd service member from the base to die in the Iraq war, said 1st Lt. Christy Kercheval, a public affairs officer.

Romero is survived by his father, Juan, and mother, Maria.

His awards include the National Defense Service Medal and the War on Terrorism Service Medal.
