Marine killed in Iraq mourned as hero
OMAHA, Neb. -- A car accident killed an Elkhorn man Tuesday morning.
Police said Marine Lance Cpl. Brandon Orsborn, 20, was driving southbound on Blair High Road near 103rd Street when he lost control and rolled his SUV several times. Orsborn was taken to Creighton University Medical Center, where he died.
Authorities said Orsborn was talking on his cell phone at the time of the accident. They believe alcohol may have been a factor in the crash.
Orsborn was a veteran of the Iraq war. The Marine Reservist served a year in Iraq as an electrician with the First Service Support Group, and returned to Elkhorn last fall. Capt. Barry Logan said Orsborn served with distinction both in Iraq and at home.
Orsborn left for the Marines shortly after graduation from Elkhorn High School, where teachers said Tuesday he was an unforgettable person.
"You can't forget Brandon," said teach Gene Torrens. "Brandon had a booming bass voice. He was really a strong singer."
Torens had Orsborn in school productions and music class.
"By the time he was a senior, he was an all-state choir member," Torens said.
Orsborn was an athlete, too.
"He participated in football, track, swimming," said Principal Bary Habrock. "Brandon was well-liked by his peers. He was very respectful, very polite."
The Orsborn family decline comment.
