Marine Corporal Seamus Davey of Lowville lost his life last Friday in Iraq by an explosion. Davey, a 1998 graduate of Lowville Academy, was a Marine reservist based in Reno, Nevada.

"A very patriotic young man. His father had been in the Marines and it was important to him, I think, to also do the same," said the Superintendent of Lowville Academy, Kenneth McAuliffe.

Davey joined the Marines after he graduated high school. Those who knew Davey say he was a well rounded man who was everyone's friend.

"I think that was the way to describe him is an all American type kid that everybody enjoyed being around him, friendly and respectful to everyone. He treated other people in a positive way and I think that's why people enjoyed him," said Robert Goss, Athletic Director at Lowville Academy.

Davey's family says they're devastated by his death. But, they remain extremely proud of Seamus' accomplishments and will miss his strong love of us and life itself. Seamus was a very dedicated man to family, friends and his fellow Marines.

Davey's family says they plan to have his funeral here at Lowville Academy in the auditorium this Saturday."

"Seamus leaves his family his legacy, he cared a lot about his family loved his family very much and I think they can take great solace in the fact that they raised a fine young men," said Goss.

A time for Davey's funeral has not yet been set. The school tells us it will let the family use the auditorium for the funeral this Saturday. The family plans to have calling hours sometime Friday at the First Presbyterian Church.
