Friends and family on Friday gathered to remember Lance Cpl. Nickalous N. Aldrich, who died last week in a vehicle accident in the Al Anbar Province in Iraq.

Aldrich, 21, died Friday in the non-hostile accident.

He joined the U.S. Marine Corps in 2001 and was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 4th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division of the 1st Marine Expeditionary Force at Camp Pendleton, Calif.

Nickalous graduated from Lanier High School in Austin, where he was a member of the Future Farmers of America. He also attended Austin's Trinity Baptist Church.

He is survived by his mother, Jonna Aldrich; father, Vern Aldrich; brother, John David Alley; and sister, Jennifer Alley; and grandparents, LeRoy and Rose Aldrich.
